Celebrating John La Rose and 40 Years of New Beacon Books, a day of celebration at the South Bank Centre in London:
- The reading of the seminal poem Rites of Passage by Kamau Brathwaite
- A film screening of the film on John La Rose, Dream to Change the World, introduced by its acclaimed director Horace Ove
- An evening of celebration with academic Brian Alleyne, Jamaican writer Erna Brodber, the Buru Drummers, actors Burt Caesar and Dona Croll, GPI Trustees Janice Durham, Roxy Harris, Gus John, Linton Kwesi Johnson and Michael La Rose, artist Errol Lloyd, renowned novelists Caryl Phillips and Ngugi wa Thiong’o, flautist Keith Waithe and GPI Trustee Sarah White.
