GPI wins award and £10k from Nisa

We are celebrating the win of a £10,000 grant from the Nisa chain of grocery stores under its registered charity Making a Difference Locally (MADL). Sharmilla Beezmohun, one of the GPI's trustees, is the one we thank for this slice of success as she fortuitously noticed the call for applications from local charity/community bodies. MADL marked its 10th anniversary by donating £10,000 each to 10 organizations and Sharmilla completed a winning application on our behalf!

Wednesday 19 September found Sharmilla along with our Archivist Sarah Garrod, Administrator Nicole-Rachelle Moore and Secretary Sarah White on a train to Leeds where the official celebratory event took place at the grand Queens Hotel. Representatives from all ten charities were able to meet each other and Nisa's Head of Charity Kate Carroll was on hand with the MADL team to greet us all. There were presentations on charity relationships, digital and marketing fundraising, fundraising from scratch and writing successful funding bids. The learning about and sharing of ideas complemented a day of appreciation for and recognition of, the diverse contributions that the various charities make to society. The GPI thanks Kate Carroll and all at MADL for the generosity of the award and for hosting us in Leeds earlier this week!
