Archive Showcase: May

We are starting a monthly archive showcase at the GPI. Each month we will be highlighting an item from our archive, writing about it, posting up images, or appealing for information. Below is the first of these showcases - one of our regular volunteers, Heiba Lamara, has been reading the Blackman Journal. Watch out for further showcases from next month in our news stream and on our Facebook page.

The GPI at the Bocas Lit Fest

Sarah White, the GPI's secretary, left for Port-of-Spain, Trinidad on Wednesday 17th April for the country's third annual Bocas Lit Fest. She is there to give an informal presentation on the work of her partner, the late John La Rose, New Beacon Books and the George Padmore Institute, as well as to accept a lifetime achievement award. The Bocas Lit Fest has this year inaugurated The Henry Swanzy Award for Distinguished Service to Caribbean Letters which honours service to Caribbean literature by broadcasters, critics, editors, publishers and others.

GPI Archive is back online

The GPI's archive catalogue is now back online! Although we haven't yet made the current Dream to Change the World files public, the other collections in our archive can once again be searched online- these include the following collections - the Caribbean Artists Movement, the International Bookfairs of Radical, Black and Third World Books, the European Action for Racial Equality and Social Justice, the Black Education Movement and the Black Parents Movement, the John La Rose Collection, our UK and Caribbean journals and newspaper collection and the New Cross Massacre Campaign.

George Padmore Institute Open Days

We are running a series of open days at the George Padmore Institute this Spring and Summer. They will be on the first Thursday of every month, beginning on Thursday 4th April and running through to July. Come along to visit the archive, see our pop-up Dig My Archives schools exhibition, find out more about our current Heritage Lottery funded Dream to Change the World project, enquire about volunteering with us, or just to have a nose. We hope to see you there!
