Tribute to Matthew Butler

STATEMENT FROM THE GEORGE PADMORE INSTITUTE AND NEW BEACON BOOKS, LONDON, ON THE DEATH OF MATTHEW BUTLER

It was with great sadness that we heard the news of Matthew’s tragic death. It is a deep loss to all who knew and worked with him in Britain, especially for us the family of the George Padmore Institute and New Beacon Books. He had been part of our activities for many years, in particular over the years of the International Book Fair of Radical Black and Third World Books, when he was an invaluable supporter and worker in our organisation of the events. He was also active in the events we organised in the north.

Matthew was a man of great enthusiasm and commitment to the political cause and international vision we hold. He shared his invaluable knowledge to inform and strengthen us.

We send our condolences to all the members of Matthew’s family at this sad time.
