Wordplanting in A Portable Paradise - 8 October 2019 An evening of poetry with Kendel Hippolyte and Roger Robinson

We invite you to another collaboration with Speaking Volumes Live Literature Productions on Tuesday 8 October when poets Kendel Hippolyte and Roger Robinson read from their most recent collections.

Roger Robinson is a performer and writer who lives between Trinidad and the UK and whose poetry collection The Butterfly Hotel, was shortlisted for the OCM Bocas Poetry Prize. Co-founder of the international writing collective Malika's Kitchen and Spoke Lab, Roger has toured extensively with the British Council and is currently on tour with King Midas Sound.

Kendel Hippolyte is a director, playwright, poet and sporadic researcher into aspects of Caribbean arts and culture. He has led poetry workshops in various countries and performed at literary events around the world. The author of seven previous collections of poetry, Kendel's Fault Lines won the Bocas Poetry Prize in 2013.

Cultural and economic imperialism, the environment and the politics of race and identity are just some of the themes explored in the latest works by both poets. Powerfully and persuasively written, the poems by Hippolyte and Robinson compel listeners and readers to action and also beautifully capture the quotidian kindnesses which give us comfort and hope in difficult times. So, come hear these two award-winning wordsmiths for their only joint UK reading, which will highlight their current publications: Kendel Hippolyte's Wordplanting and Roger Robinson's A Portable Paradise.
