GPI Receives 2026 Haringey Heroes Award

We are extremely thrilled to have won the 2026 Haringey Heroes Award for Creative Industry Business of the Year. This annual civic award organised by Haringey Council took place at Jacksons Lane Arts Centre at the start of March.

The George Padmore Institute’s award was one of 14 categories which recognise the inspiring and diverse ways in which the Haringey community comes together to make a positive and dynamic impact on the borough.

In our 35th anniversary year, we are especially grateful to Haringey Council and Mayor Ahmed Muntaqim Mahbub for this acknowledgement of the creative work the GPI carries out to promote the heritage of the local black and brown communities. Through creative writing workshops, an Artist in Residence, books for young adults and children, talks and many other activities, we showcase the stories of resilience, resistance and creativity in our archive collections.

To learn more about the work we do and our archive collections, including the Black Parents Movement, Black Education Movement, New Cross Massacre Action Committee, International Book Fair of Radical Black and Third World Books (1982–1995) and many others, please visit our archives page here.

As a charity, our work is funded by grants and donations. Please consider supporting the GPI with a one-off or regular donation here. Or browse our online shop for books and DVDs published by the GPI here.
