The George Padmore Institute (GPI) was pleased to take part in the 2025 Open House Festival, an annual celebration of London's architecture and neighbourhoods, and the people and communities that make them.
On Tuesday, 16 September we welcomed visitors for a 30-minute tour of the archives where they had the opportunity to learn more about the GPI's history from our Trustee Sharmilla Beezmohun and handle some of our archival collections in an information session led by our archivist Sarah Garrod. We also had a bookstall selling GPI publications on the day.
This was a rare opportunity to visit an archive for some visitors who had never been to one before. They learned what an archive is along with stories of Black British history the GPI preserves.
